Construction of the new shipping and logistics centre begins in September. An adjacent plot of land is acquired to construct an initial hall of approximately 1,800 m².

Construction work continues until spring 2015. In addition to paper and goods storage, the new hall will also include staff facilities and a shared logistics and IT office. Large-format printing is also relocated to the new building, thereby relieving the strained space situation in digital printing. The freed-up space in the existing production areas is used to further optimise internal workflows.

In digital printing, two Xerox Nuvera 314 EA systems are installed, each with a throughput of 314 A4 images per minute in black-and-white duplex printing. They replace the previous Nuvera 120 and 288 models and are primarily used for personalised mailing production.

With an environmental management system according to EMAS III and a quality management system according to ISO 9001, an integrated management system (IMS) is implemented at Kern. Kern is also awarded the DDV Lettershop quality and performance seal for the first time. With the FSC® recertification, PEFC certification is also obtained in May 2014.
