Terms like ""sustainable"" or "environmentally friendly" are not legally protected. Many printing companies present themselves as "green" but often engage in nothing more than what is known as "greenwashing".
To create transparency and credibility, the industry initiative Umweltindex Print (UmDEX) was launched in 2020. UmDEX.de is an independent search engine for verified sustainable printing service providers, listing companies in the DACH region based on reliable criteria. UmDEX is independent, moderated, and fact-based. Entries are free of charge. Type I eco-labels and recognized certifications serve as the basis for classification.
UmDEX Print is not an additional eco-label or a ranking. Each listed company demonstrates a high level of commitment to sustainability. Based on the criteria met, companies are grouped by an internal score (over 500, 300, or 200 points) and sorted randomly within these groups.
Kern GmbH is part of this initiative. With our environmental commitment, we belong to the top group with a score of over 500 points. This evaluation is based on our environmental management system (EMAS III including ISO 14001), Blue Angel certification (Der Blaue Engel, DE-UZ 195), use of FSC and PEFC papers, ISO 9001 quality management, and voluntary financial climate contributions.
